Wicken (Population 800)
Wicken is a histories fen-edge village situated 3 miles southwest of Soham and centres on three greens. The village facilities include a village hall, children’s play area, farm shop, a public house and a bus service to Stretham, Soham, Ely and Cambridge which runs two days a week.
Wicken parish is home to Wicken Fen, acquired bit by bit since 1899 by the National Trust, which now owns 303 hectares. Wicken Fen is one of the best-known and oldest nature reserves in the country.
The parish of Wicken includes the settlement of Upware (population 70). Facilities within the settlement include public house, a public telephone, children’s play area and a bus service one day a week. There is also a field studies centre and mooring facilities.
