Location
In 673AD, Etheldreda founded a mixed monastery in Ely, of which she was Abbess. If, instead, she had remained in Northumbria as Queen, Ely would probably have remained a Fenland village with nothing special to commend it. Instead it is a city famous for its 'Ship of the Fens' Norman Cathedral, with its world famous Octagon and Lantern Tower.
